Waitings
Series of photographs

These photographs are done while waiting for something or someone and staring at the floor. Started in 2007 and ongoing the series gradually became some kind of a diary, exposing different episodes of life.
When and why this project began?
I have started this project back in 2007. At that time I had no idea why was I making these photographs, I just enjoyed how they looked: various background textures and different footwear. Like all other photographs I was fond of them because they reminded about a specific situation and mood. But later I started noticing that the shoes are getting older with every other photograph, and that "waitings" sometimes turn to be expectations of very intimated and personal events. Then the reason of collecting these photographs shifted, they became a diary. Later even spacial axis of photos' backgrounds started to vary – from horizontal to vertical. This made me realise that the project is living it's own life and evolve by it's own rules with a minimal input from myself. Like a tomography reveal slices of a body, these photographs show slices of time.

Why photos are shot with a cellphone camera?
The Waitings were started with a cellphone camera just because it was always in my pocket, but my obsession with cellphone photographs began to rise with every other shot. I have been in love with polaroid, but gradually the phylosophy of cellphone photography took over. Do they call it mobilography?
In which locations were photos done?
The Waitings were mostly shot in Yerevan, Tartu, St.Petersburg, as I'm constantly moving between these cities, some small towns near those, and other places that I visited and had a situation of waiting for something. Basicly everywhere I've been.
